The Hidden component stores a value that users never see. Use it for values set by default, by a script, or from the form link, that need to be saved with the submission, such as a request type, a source code, or a calculated reference number.

Hidden component or Hidden setting?
Most components also have a Hidden check box on their Display tab. Either way the value is saved and not shown. Use a Hidden component for a value that is only ever set automatically. Use the Hidden setting on another component, such as a Text Field, when you might want to show it later or need its other settings.
Hidden values aren't secret. They are part of the page and can be seen or changed by a user with the browser's developer tools. Don't use them for anything that must not be changed; recalculate it with Calculate on server instead.
