A Container groups components so their values are saved together under one name. On screen it adds nothing; it changes only how the data is organized. Use it when another system expects the data grouped, or to keep related values together, such as a mailing address.
How data is saved
Without a container, each component's value is saved at the top level, for example data.street. Inside a container named mailingAddress, it's saved as data.mailingAddress.street:
{
"mailingAddress": { "street": "1 Main St", "city": "Springfield", "zip": "01101" }
}
Scripts, conditions, PDF mapping and SQL actions must use the full path, such as data.mailingAddress.city.
Settings
Container has Label, Hide Label, Tooltip, Custom CSS Class and Clear Value When Hidden on the Display tab, and a Data tab for default or calculated values of the whole group. See Common Component Settings.
To group components visually, use a layout component such as Panel or Field Set instead. Those don't change how data is saved.
