The Number component accepts numeric input only. The value is stored as a number, which matters when you use it in calculations or rules.
Numbers and the user's locale
GlobalForms shows and reads numbers using the user's locale (language and region) settings:
-
Thousands separators and the decimal symbol follow the locale. For example,
1,234.56in the United States and1 234,56in France. -
Users can type a decimal with either
.or,. If the locale uses a comma for decimals and the user types12.34, it is read as twelve point three four, and the other way round. -
Values that look like thousands, such as
1,000or1.000, follow the locale's thousands separator. -
The submission list shows numbers in the viewer's locale format.
However it is displayed, the stored value is a plain number.
Locale-aware number entry and display require GlobalForms version 10.8 or greater.
Using numbers in rules
Because the value is numeric, adding two Number fields in a rule gives their sum, not the two values joined together. An empty Number field has no value; see "Add two values safely" in Common Script Snippets.
