Setting |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Rows (Display tab) |
How many lines are visible before the box scrolls. Users can also resize the box by dragging its bottom-right corner. |
|
Max Length (Display tab) |
The most characters a user can type. The browser stops input at this limit. |
|
Maximum Length (Validation tab) |
Checked by the server when the form is submitted. A longer entry is rejected. |
|
Required (Validation tab) |
Users must enter text before submitting. |
To limit length, set Max Length on the Display tab so users can't type past the limit. Add the Validation tab's Maximum Length as well if the limit must also be enforced for submissions that don't come from the form, such as integrations.
Max Length requires GlobalForms version 10.7.1 or greater.
Tips
-
Set a maximum length when the text is sent to a system with a field size limit, such as a SQL column or a GlobalCapture field.
-
For a single line of text, use a Text Field instead.
