System Requirements

Check that your server meets these requirements before you install or upgrade GlobalForms.

These requirements apply to GlobalForms 10.7.1 and later. Current releases require Node.js 24.

Server

Requirement

Details

Operating system

Windows Server 2019 or later, or Windows 10 or later (64-bit)

Node.js

Version 24 or later, installed and available on the system PATH. Download it from nodejs.org.

Permissions

A Windows account with local administrator rights to run setup and install the GlobalForms service

Install location

C:\GlobalForms by default. You can choose a different folder during setup.

Database

Requirement

Details

MongoDB

Version 8 or later, provided by GlobalCapture. GlobalForms doesn't include MongoDB; see Where MongoDB comes from, below.

Connection

The GlobalForms server must reach MongoDB on its port (27017 by default). A database user and password are optional. TLS connections are supported.

Shared MongoDB with GlobalCapture: if GlobalForms and GlobalCapture use the same MongoDB server, always update GlobalCapture before GlobalForms.

Where MongoDB comes from

GlobalForms is deployed with GlobalCapture and uses the MongoDB server that GlobalCapture installs. Install GlobalCapture first. Its installer installs a long-term support version of MongoDB, and GlobalForms keeps its data in its own database on that server (GlobalForms by default). Enter that server's details during GlobalForms setup.

Standalone MongoDB, for upgrades only: if you're upgrading GlobalForms and can't yet update GlobalCapture to a version whose MongoDB meets the requirement above, GlobalForms can run on a separate MongoDB server of its own. Installing, securing, backing up and maintaining that MongoDB server is your responsibility. Give GlobalForms its own database user; see Database Configuration.

GlobalForms setup checks that it can connect to MongoDB, but not which version is running. To check the version, connect with mongosh and run db.version().

HTTPS

Default. Active once a certificate is configured. Users and GlobalCapture reach GlobalForms here. Can be changed.

If GlobalCapture runs on a different server, it must be able to reach GlobalForms on its HTTPS port. See Configuring HTTPS.
